Deb Ferrara has spent virtually her entire life developing an intimate relationship with every aspect of the songwriting process.

Starting out as a child singer, her holiday single (Christmas Time is Near) peaked on the charts at #35 and earned her major media attention, including TV, radio and print spotlights. Rather than let this early brush with fame slow her down, she spent the remainder of her childhood developing her own style and honing her skills, which at that point already ranged from songwriting to production. By the age of 18, Ferrara was in the studio with her own band, recording and co-producing a five-song EP of her original pop/rock material. The self-released record, “Go Away," caught the ear of major labels, and garnered two songwriting awards from Billboard. Nick Massi (Four Seasons) engineered much of Ferrara's early work.

Over time, Ferrara discovered that in order to express herself, she didn't necessarily need to be the one standing directly in the spotlight. As a result, the list of fellow artists who have licensed her songs and collaborate with her continues to grow and includes the likes of hit songwriter/producer Rob Fusari (Destiny's Child, Jessica Simpson, Will Smith), LA producer Carter Humphrey (Rod Stewart) and NY based writer/producer Askold Buk. ASCAP has recognized her songwriting by featuring her in an "Audio Portrait" on their website and naming her a recipient of an ASCAP Plus Pop Songwriting Award for the past three years. Ferrara performed at the 2004 Songwriters Hall of Fame Showcase in New York City and showcased at SXSW in March 2005 and 2006.

Deb and Dan Marfisi
The prolific Ferrara just keeps coming up with new material, and more people keep taking notice. After recording a seven-song sampler in NJ, Ferrara found herself signing an exclusive representation contract with New York attorney Ron Bienstock and being offered a publishing deal with DSM Producers. In 2002 and 2003 when she teamed up with Los Angeles producer Dan Marfisi (POE, Harry Dean Stanton, Mindi Abair [Backstreet Boys/Mandy Moore]) to record a pair of CDs, Songbook and Songbook Volume 2, she earned rave reviews, new industry interest, and radio airplay, as well as licensing several songs from the collections to other artists.

In 2004, Ferrara wrote and recorded Anything But Ordinary, a CD collection of twelve infectious pop/rock songs produced by Dan Marfisi and mixed by Grammy winning engineer, Carter Humphrey. Three songs from the CD have been licensed to outside artists and several tracks were featured in 5 separate episodes of MTV's "Made" (2005-2006). In addition, a new version of the Christmas song that put her on the charts as a child was released in time for the 2004 holiday season. The Westwood Music Group is handling Anything But Ordinary and the Christmas Time (is Near) single non-exclusively for film and television placement.

Deb most recently has been working on the theme music for Fashionistas - a major motion picture based on a book by Lynn Messina in development by CFP Productions. Teasers and shop promotion by DSMJ, music written and produced by Deb and Askold Buk of Poto Kabango (NYC) and vocals by Deena Miller.

Aside from her songwriting, Ferrara is involved in a variety of music related projects. She is a member of ASCAP, Women in Music (V.P. '04-'05) the National Academy of Popular Music (Songwriters Hall of Fame), and a voting member of the Recording Academy. Ferrara is the host and coordinator of the successful monthly songwriter showcase New Jersey Songwriters in the Round, which is sponsored by ASCAP. In conjunction with NJ Songwriters in the Round, she organizes an annual concert to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Songs For The Cause, in memory of her sister, Lynn. Ferrara is also a NJ Director for the monthly Chick Singer Night songfests. She is the President of More Good Music, which has been a family owned ASCAP publishing company since 1968.
